"Sewing is LIfe": A Mixed Media Art Show Dedicated to the Sewing Machine 12-17-22

Sew Loka hosted its first art show “Sewing is Life” on Saturday (12/17/22) in Barrio Logan from 1pm-9pm. “Sewing is Life” was a mixed media art show dedicated to the sewing machine, and the main purpose of this show was to highlight and discuss the beautiful machines that create all our clothing.

Everything that we wear on our bodies was created using a sewing machine, but as a modern society, I feel like we are very disconnected from our clothing; we were never taught to think about where our clothing comes from or how it was made. But together, through art, I believe that we can all spark a conversation, and we can use our creativity to inspire real change.

We invited painters, sewists, textile artists, clothing designers, jewelry creators, chefs, poets, musicians, and many more to come create with us and we asked them all to interpret the sewing machine in their own special way. It was a beautiful night filled with amazing people and we are grateful for everyone that came out to support!
